Eden Hazard is tipped to be one of the most talented young players out there today. He has been voted the best Ligue 1 player of the last two seasons in France. There was also lots of speculation linking him to a move to the Premier League back in January. More recently he has announced that he will be leaving Lille and that he favour a move to England. It was also announced that he will be playing in Manchester next season. By saying this, he could mean a number of different scenarios. He could sign for Manchester United or Manchester City will be the obvious ones but looking at it even deeper, he could sign for any Premier League team and still play in Manchester, twice per season!!
Rumour has it that after Lille play their last game of the Ligue 1 season against Nancy, Eden Hazard could announce the team he is likely to sign for during the summer. I would like to hear early where he was going, rather than spending all summer reading the press and how their stories will change from club to club just so they can sell their newspapers!!
Anyway enough of all the speculation and gossip, what do we really know about Eden Hazard…
He broke into the LOSC Lille squad in the 2007/08 season in Ligue 1, making four appearances. In the 2008/09 season he made 30 appearances, scoring four goals and assisting in one goal. In 2009/10 season he made 37 appearances, scored five goals, and assisted in eight goals. In the 2010/11 season where Lille became the Ligue 1 Champions, he made 38 appearances, scored seven goals and assisted in ten goals and in the 2011/12 season which would be his final season in France, he made 37 appearances, scored 17 goals and assisted in 15 goals.
Hazard has also played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, so at 21 he does come with some European experience.
Here is a table of his appearances, goals and assist record for LOSC Lille;
Eden Hazard has played for 2 youth Belgium teams (U17 & U19), before being placed in the senior Belgium team. In the U17 team he made 17 appearances and scored four goals. In the U19 team he made nine appearances and scored six goals.
To date he has made 26 appearances for the Belgian senior team, scoring one goal and assisting in eight goals. His first goal for Belgium was scored in the home game against Kazakhstan on 7th October 2011, where Belgium were the eventual 4-1 winners. Here is the video of his first international goal.

As you can see at the age of 21, Eden Hazard has certainly achieved a lot whilst he has been at Lille. Some will say that the French Ligue 1 is an easy league to play in, others will say it is similar to the Premier League, albeit there is not many top teams. He will be a good buy for any team that is willing to pay for him. I don’t know if he will go to Manchester City due to the players they already have and I feel both he and his style of play would fit right into Manchester United. Also Chelsea and Tottenham have been mentioned, but only one of those teams will play UEFA Champions League football next season. Only time will tell who he signs for…
