United flop takes a swiping shot ahead of expected departure

Manchester United striker Bebe has strongly hinted that he would be interested in a move to Sporting Lisbon this summer.

The £7 million Portuguese winger joined the club in 2011 but has never lived up to the promise that Sir Alex Ferguson had signed him for on Carlos Queiroz’ recommendation.

And ahead of what is to be an expected departure, Bebe took a swipe at United by hinting that United do not put faith in young players or appreciate them.

“I would love to play for Sporting,” Bebe told Correio de Manha.

“The club would suit me and it is an ambition of mine to play for Sporting.

“They put faith in young players, appreciate them, and play an attractive game that suits my style.

“It is a club that can grow. I haven’t found that in England.”

If there is any club in the world that puts faith in young players, it is United. Over the past few years the likes of Welbeck, Cleverley, Wootton, Keane, Tunnicliffe and Cole have all made their first team debuts after coming through the lower ranks at the club.

Bebe had his chances at first-team football but blew them all. He simply wasn’t ready for it.

Moyes’ intentions to carry on the tradition of promoting youth within the club gives Bebe all the more reason to stay for at least one more season but I’m not sure I’d even want him at the club given how little he has progressed in three years.

United are better off trying to recuperate some of the £7 million spent on Bebe and give more game time to the likes of Larnell Cole, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj who are all looking like staking their claims on a first team squad spot in the coming years.
