Thiago has ‘chosen’ to move to Manchester United

SPORT journalist Joan Pi claims that Thiago has already chosen to move to Manchester United from Barcelona this summer.

Pi goes as far as to attack the release clause in his contract and suggests that Thiago is being ruinous to the club by using the €18 million release clause because it would only cover the cost of his eight years training.

And he continues in the same vein by suggesting that Barcelona would be the real winners in the situation due to the space that would open up for Sergi Roberto and his brother Rafinha to thrive at the club.

Thiago’s imminent departure from Barcelona looks like it is already set in stone before anything official has been confirmed.

Given how much of a talent he is, I would of expected the club to have made more of a public effort to make Thiago feel that staying would be the best option for him. It was Barcelona’s fault that the €18 million release clause was activated and it seems that they are happy to let him leave rather than try to persuade him to stay.

There has only been press discussing a potential move away from the club rather than looking at a potential new deal being signed and it is an indication of the current feeling towards Thiago in Catalan.

Two days ago, SPORT boldly claimed that Thiago would join United this week which coincided with David Moyes’ admittance that United were looking to try and wrap deals up before pre-season begun on 13 July in less than a week.

And although there have been transfer sagas in the past, Thiago’s one feels a lot more plausible because the situation suits both player and club perfectly with Thiago desperate to secure first team football and United equally desperate to strengthen the midfield. Hopefully it doesn’t just end up being a Sneijder Mk II.

Do you think Thiago will sign for Manchester United this summer?
