This has been one hell of a week for any Manchester United fan and it isn’t even Friday.
It all began with United losing out on another midfielder as Thiago Alcantara decided to join Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich which was swiftly followed by Kevin Strootman, who was long linked with a move to Old Trafford, signing for Roma.
But then it all exploded when Wayne Rooney‘s representatives said he was “angry and confused” at David Moyes’ comments about his position at the club next season, despite in reality them not being anywhere near as acidic as the media suggested.
It sparked a bid from Chelsea that was immediately rejected but the Rooney transfer tombola is now well and truly rolling as are a host of other players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Cesc Fabregas was subject to a €30 million bid from United that was rejected by Barcelona. Gareth Bale has been linked with a £60 million move up to Manchester and Luka Modric negotiations have already begun according to reports – all within the space of 48 hours.
To top it all off, United’s vice chairman Ed Woodward has cut short his pre-season tour to fly home with urgent transfer business at the top of his schedule.
The first season without Ferguson was always going to be one with question marks but what this summer has taught fans so far is that nobody knows what players United will line up with next season.
There are going to be big changes whether Rooney stays at the club or not. United are clearly in the market for a marquee signing and what better way to help ease Moyes into the hardest job in football than a big player to start with a bang.
This summer may have already been bubbling with rumours but it is about to boil over with activity.
