Javier Hernandez shows he is a coiled spring ready to explode

Javier Hernandez may have only played 18 minutes for Manchester United this season but tonight, you wouldn’t have known it.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined for United with an injury but Chicharito was in action for Mexico in their crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against USA.

Straight from the first whistle, Hernandez played like butter on a hot pan. He skipped around USA’s defence and made run after run in behind them but despite an early dominance from Mexico, Hernandez did not get any service. He

Just after the 20 minute mark, Hernandez dropped deeper to pick up the ball to start the attacks himself and drove at USA’s defence before firing a shot in from outside the box. It may have gone way over the bar but it was an indication by Chicharito wanted to be involved as much as possible, he simply wanted the ball.

Unfortunately for Hernandez, his enthusiasm wasn’t infectious. Mexico slipped into a lethargic tempo and were second best for the rest of the game which left Hernandez isolated without any service. No matter how many runs he made, there was nobody willing to make the pass to him.

Mexico slipped to a 2-0 loss that places their 2014 Brazil World Cup qualification in doubt and Hernandez will no doubt be disappointed but from a United perspective, there are a lot of positives to take from the game.

Chicharito played the full 90 minutes against USA and had energy left over at the end of the game. His return to full fitness is brilliant news. Against Chelsea and Liverpool, United could really have used his attacking impetus and having him back in the squad will give David Moyes a different dynamic to play with.
