Paris St Germain’s Thiago Silva remains hopeful that Wayne Rooney will make the move to France in the future.
This summer, it looked like Rooney would leave Old Trafford but Manchester United and David Moyes stood firm that he was not for sale at any price.
Silva admitted he was hopeful that Rooney could have been persuaded to join PSG this summer and speaking to The Mirror, he remained optimistic that a move could still materialise.
“I was hopeful we would sign Wayne Rooney this summer and I am hopeful that we still can,” he said.
“It is clear his future at Manchester United is not certain.
“The player himself has made it clear that he would like a new challenge.
“If he still feels that way in January or even next summer then, once again I would urge him to come and join PSG. We are the most exciting project in European football and it is clear from the ambition of our owners that we are going to be successful.”
Rooney has already shown that Moyes’ trust in him was not misplaced with some fantastic performances this season and his rich vein of form is an indication that he could have a future at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old was indeed looking for a new challenge in his career but there is no bigger challenge than being a United player this year in the first season without Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm and Rooney has made the perfect start.
Moyes was insistent that Rooney was not for sale this summer and if he can continue in the same form he has started this season with, there is little chance that anything would be different next year.
