Media outlets in Madrid have been told that Fabio Coentrao is going to join Manchester United according to reports tonight which supports other claims from yesterday.
Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu but Coentrao was not in the match day squad with first choice left back Marcelo starting in his place.
David Moyes made a late move for Coentrao in the summer and it was all set to be completed until Madrid pulled out at the last minute because they failed to sign an adequate replacement in time.
Rumours linking Coentrao with a move to United have really picked up pace in the past 24 hours since AS journalist Joaquin Maroto said that he would join United officially within two weeks.
Interestingly enough, Maroto is an ex-director of communications at Real Madrid so he may well still have contacts at the club. As it stands, AS have not ran a story in the print edition of their newspaper but it is likely that they will cover the story tomorrow as, alongside Angel Di Maria, Coentrao is a player who may well leave Madrid this January.
Although, Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that there will be no movement in and out of Madrid this January.
He said: "There is nothing new regarding that. No players are leaving and we're not going to sign anyone. The window is closed for us."
Ancelotti's stance is firm but in a World Cup year, Coentrao will want more game time and could force himself out of Madrid if necessary.
It'd be great move for United as Coentrao would be a fantastic signing because he is exactly the sort of left-back who would thrive playing under Moyes' tactics, where he focuses on overlapping full backs to provide the width.
There is no official word on the Coentrao move yet but everything points towards him moving to Old Trafford in the coming weeks. We will bring you the latest update on the situation as soon as it happens.
