Birmingham secure their third Manchester United player on loan

Federico Macheda has joined up with Tom Thorpe and Tyler Blackett on loan at Birmingham City until the end of the season.

Macheda has already had two loan spells away from Old Trafford this season, both at Doncaster Rovers. His time there was interrupted by injuries but Paul Dickov was impressed with his performances and his attitude, particularly that he kept his promise to return to Doncaster for his second loan spell even though other clubs had come in for him.

This will most likely be Macheda’s last loan deal as his contract runs out this summer and he’ll be able to move as a free agent in June, probably back to Italy where a number of clubs are said to be interested in him.

Macheda’s time at United has never lived up to the dizzy expectations he created himself with a stunning debut goal against Aston Villa but 22, he still has his whole career ahead of him.
