If you only follow Manchester United’s first team, then you may have found deadline day quite mundane but if you are a keen admirer of our academy teams, it was a day of unbelievable action.
David Moyes said there would a few players going out on loan deals but few would have expected 11 to be completed as well as three permanent deals. That’s a mammoth 14 deals in total, but who went where?
Fulham signed Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe on permanent deals while Fabio joined Cardiff City on a permanent deal and Wilfried Zaha went on a season long loan. Charni Ekangamene and Sam Byrne both went to Carlisle United for the rest of the season.
Jack Rudge joined League Two side Torquay, Sam Johnstone joined Doncaster Rovers, Will Keane joined up with Harry Redknapp at QPR and Tom Lawrence went to Yeovil Town, while Tom Thorpe, Tyler Blackett and Federico Macheda all went to Birmingham.
That amount of movement from United is unprecedented. Moyes wasn’t lying when he said there would be a few players going out on loan was he?
What this level of activity certainly does show is that United have very little faith in the Under-21s current set-up and there are those who feel the competition itself does not create the necessary level of competitive spirit that youngsters need to learn.
The Peoples Person’s Tracey Germaine will be keeping an eye on how all of or youngsters get on across the course of this season.
