Moyes insists top players have called him asking to join Manchester United

David Moyes has told reporters he has been inundated with phone calls from ‘top players’ who all want to play for Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney‘s new deal is the third major transfer news that United have had since the summer following the long-term deal given to Adnan Januzaj and the signing of Juan Mata.

It is three real statements of intent from the club and if Moyes is to be believed, United’s dismal Premier League form this year hasn’t affected the desire of the world’s best players to play for United.

“All the top players want to play for Manchester United,” he said according to The Guardian.

“I can’t tell you the amount of phone calls I’ve had from top players around the world who want to play for Manchester United.”

What a strange thing to say by all accounts, even if his phone had been ringing off the hook from players who have told him they want to play for United (which by all accounts would be odd given how poor we’ve been).

Regardless of the comments, the signing of Rooney is a sign that the best players in the world are going to be joining United as part of Moyes building his very own team and the summer is certainly going to be exciting.
