David de Gea makes a breakthrough with Spain

So far in his short career, David de Gea‘s appearances in the Spanish press have been reserved almost exclusively for links around his potential return to Spain sooner rather than later.

However, Marca have now featured him for footballing reasons after De Gea completed his third game (270 minutes) without conceding a goal.

Marca went as far as to compare him to one of United’s best goalkeepers in Peter Schmeichel and hailed him as an individual who could become one of Manchester United’s most important players in a new, post-Ferguson era. He can quite easily become both in time as he has shown with his potential so far.

That’s the sort of press that De Gea needs to receive if he is to break into the Spain squad under Vicente Del Bosque and it is good to see that he has started to earn plaudits from those over in Spain too. Without them, he’d simply have to bide his time.
