Eric Cantona believes Paul Pogba made the right decision to leave Manchester United and join Juventus.
Since moving to Serie A, Pogba has blossomed into the best young midfielder in Europe having won the prestigious Golden Boy Award.
Given that he only turned 21 today, Pogba’s progression has been staggering.
He has cemented his place in a strong Juventus midfield that includes Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo, won the Under-20 World Cup and was named MVP for the tournament and is now an important player for France’s senior side going into the 2014 World Cup – so you could certainly say his decision to leave has been vindicated.
“Pogba certainly did well to quit Manchester United and Juventus did well to take him,” Cantona told Football Italia.
Unfortunately, Cantona is right. You can’t say that Pogba didn’t make the right decision given how much success he has had since leaving but it still hurts to think that our midfield problems may not exist right now if we simply gave him the money and playing time he craved.
As well as chatting about Pogba, Cantona explained what happened this week as he was arrested in North London for common assault and he gave his side of the story.
“I had a row with a paparazzo,” he said.
“He was too invasive. I spent three hours in the police station, but the scandal was created by the journalists, as he doesn’t have a scratch on him.”
