David Moyes allays fears of a serious Robin van Persie injury

David Moyes has confirmed that Robin van Persie’s injury does not look too serious and believes it is just an impact injury.

Van Persie went off on a stretcher after receiving what looked like a painful knee to the back of his hamstring right at the end of the game after a brilliant performance to leave United fans worried he could spend another spell on the sidelines.

His hat-trick made the difference for United and Moyes sounds confident that his injury won’t keep out for too long if any time at all.

“It doesn’t look that bad,” he said.

“I’ve just gone in to see him just now. He’s certainly had a knock in and around the knee area, so we don’t know exactly. Could be just [that he took] a knee in the back of his knee.

Based on his showing against Liverpool, Welbeck deserved to start against Olympiacos and he did but Moyes’ decision to stick with Van Persie was more than vindicated.

That was the sort of performance we grew accustomed to seeing last season from Van Persie and hopefully it is the start of an end of season flurry from the Dutchman.
