Kroos latest – Ballack believes in encouraging United interest and Bayern confirm contract extension for Robben

Michael Ballack has backed Toni Kroos’ decision to delay his contract and assess all of his options like Manchester United despite the pressure that is being exerted by Bayern Munich as a consequence.

Kroos has not ruled out a move away from Bayern and the 24-year-old has made the decision to delay the signing of any contract until after the World Cup, seemingly to find out what he could be offered elsewhere and Ballack feels it is the right thing to do.

“I think he has been checking out his market value and he will know where he is in the salary structure,” Ballack told Bild.

“It’s important to know you’re valued and it is perfectly legitimate that he looks around.”

Bayern’s public stance with Kroos’ contract situation is indicative that the situation is far from simple in Bavaria as, in a tit for tat fight for an advantage, they have warned Kroos not to overplay his hand in the negotiation process.

Following Bayern’s treble success last year, there were always going to have to be some improved contracts and this week, Arjen Robben has signed a contract extension with Bayern.

“We are very pleased that Arjen has extended his contract,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

“He is a great player and he’s shown his importance for Bayern, not only in the Wembley final. Arjen is an important pillar of our team and will remain so in the coming years.”

Robben signed his new deal without any drawn out negotiations of a peep in the press – something that indicates both that Bayern were willing to give Robben what he wanted and that they felt he deserved it, something which is clearly not the current case with Kroos.

However, we’ll have to wait until the summer to find out if a compromise can be found between Kroos and Bayern.
