In the past few games, the atmosphere at Old Trafford has been phenomenal because of the fans and last night against Olympiacos was no different.
The fans helped Manchester United to a 3-0 victory to reach the Champions League quarter finals and Robin van Persie has sent his own message of thanks after he secured United’s first ever hat-trick in Champions League knock-out football.
“That was an incredible show by our fans last night! Well done lads fought like lions,” he said.
After lackadaisical performances from the first leg, West Brom and Liverpool, there were those (myself included) who felt United would be better off starting with Welbeck as the lone striker but his hat-trick at night made those who questioned his inclusion eat their words.
He did go off on a stretcher but David Moyes has insisted that it wasn’t anything serious and with Manchester City in five days time, Van Persie’s fitness could be crucial if he can continue last night’s form.
