Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been ongoing since the start of the season but now that the midfielder’s performances have been really thrust into the lime light as Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in signing him.
O Jogo report that Jose Mourinho is very interested in taking the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge and has the added bonus of having the same birthday as Carvalho’s agent, Jorge Mendes (who also represents Wilson).
Portuguese reports say Man Utd are locked in talks with Sporting over William Carvalho & are ready to pay either €30m or €18m plus a player.

However, Carvalho will not be allowed to leave Sporting Lisbon before the World Cup unless a team pays his full €45 million release clause, according to A Bola.
There’s no doubt that player prices increase after the World Cup but if Carvalho has a terrible tournament, it would force his price down – so there would be a risk from Sporting to not accept a lower price than €45 million prior for Carvalho to then be injured.

It’s no surprise to see Chelsea and Manchester City show an interest in Manchester United targets, they always do. In January, we were hot on the heels for Nemanja Matic but understandably rejoined his own club Ivanovic.
Now it seems that United are going to have to compete with Chelsea for another midfielder.
