Wayne Rooney injured and could miss Bayern Munich game

David Moyes has revealed that Wayne Rooney could miss Manchester United’s return leg against Bayern Munich this week because of a toe injury.

Rooney has been ruled out of our game against Newcastle tomorrow and Moyes has made it clear he might not be fit in time for our trip to Germany on Wednesday.

“Wayne’s got a badly bruised toe,” Moyes told MUTV.

“He picked it up in the game the other night. Whether we were going to play him or rest him, it doesn’t matter.

“He’s got a terrible toe and not only will it be a problem for this game, it could be a problem for the Munich game as well on Wednesday.

“So we need to monitor it. We’ll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up.”

It would be a real blow if Rooney is ruled out of the game against Bayern Munich because in the Allianz Arena, the game is likely to be played with a real intensity so Rooney’s energy would have been important.

However, almost four years to the day, Rooney was ‘ruled out’ of our second leg tie against Bayern Munich but still played – will the same happen again this week?
