Moyes: Mata’s backheel for the fourth goal was a bit of magic

David Moyes hailed Juan Mata‘s performance today for Manchester United and singled out his backheel assist as ‘a bit of magic’.

Mata was unstoppable today for United. It was a slow start to the game but after he scored a wonderful free-kick, we were in complete control and Mata was running riot.

The Spaniard has now scored three goals and got two assists (if you include winning a penalty) in his last two games for Manchester United against Aston Villa and Newcastle respectively.

Mata eased into life at Old Trafford and hadn’t really been influencing games as much as he would have liked until his recent performances but in the last two games he has shown the sort of form that made him Chelsea’s Player of the Year for two years running.

He was a class above the opposition today and didn’t really look like he was in top gear either, there was more left in the tank if he needed it.

Mata might not have lived up to his record breaking price tag just yet but he is starting to show how good he can be once he is fully settled and on-form for Manchester United.
