Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho has been named March’s Player of the Month in Portugal by players and the Union.
Carvalho played every minute for Sporting in March as they recorded four wins and a draw, including a vital 1-0 victory over title rivals FC Porto, and scored one goal against Maritimo.
This isn’t the first time that Carvalho has been named Player of the Month either as the 21-year-old midfielder also won the award in three consecutive months up until January (his December award is pictured).
The 21-year-old’s stock has continued to rise all season and a host of Player of the Month awards is a testament to how impressive he has been in the Portuguese league. Last weekend, he scored a brilliant goal against Pacos de Fereirra to continue his fine form into April.
Manchester United have scouted Carvalho over a dozen times, more than any other player, and reports from earlier this year suggested a deal is already in place to bring him to Old Trafford before the World Cup starts.
That is yet to be confirmed but with every passing week, Carvalho’s stock continues to rise ahead of an almost inevitable move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer.
