William Carvalho helped Sporting Lisbon beat Real Belenenses to a 1-0 victory last night in a win that has secured Champions League football next season for Sporting, something which creates a potential stumbling block regarding Carvalho’s move to Manchester United.
The 22-year-old was once again watched United scouts as he helped Sporting shut out the opposition in another performance to show how impressively dominant he is in the middle of the park.
But with our lack of Champions League next season, some think the attraction of European football elsewhere will see some players reject a move to United, and in that respect, Carvalho has given us a reason to be worried.
Would Carvalho want to stay at the club he spearheaded into the Champions League or is he ready to move on?
At United, he’d be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world as a guaranteed first team player on substantially higher wages than Sporting offered him. At Sporting, he’d be a cult hero and would be able to play in the Champions League next season.
You can see the benefits of both sides of the argument but ultimately, it all depends how important the Champions League is to Carvalho.
