Manchester United have completed the signing of 13-year-old Angel Gomes from Portugal.
The youngster joins after impressing on a trial where he played with the Under-17s side last October in a tournament in Slovakia and he will now join United’s Under-15s side.
Angel Gomes is the son of former Portuguese striker Gil, who was an Under-20 world champion back in 1991 and actually coached at United at one stage as well as playing for Salford City.
Of course, Angel Gomes is too young to sign a professional contract but for a boy of 13 to play with the Under-17s is an indication that he is beyond his years in footballing terms which is always an exciting prospect.
As critical as it is for United’s first team to do well in this transfer market, it’s always important to bring the most talented youngsters into our academy, like Angel Gomes, at every level.
