Over the years, Manchester United have had a few Dutch faces in the side but there are three players from Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign who stand out – Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Edwin van der Sar.
The Dutch trio were at the Van Nistelrooy academy last week and while Van Nistelrooy kept it Dutch, Stam and Van der Sar kitted themselves out in United shirts – good choice.
In the course of time, it would be great to see any of them return to United in some capacity. Stam will take up a defensive coaching role with Ajax from the start of next season but could you imagine any better player to teach United’s youngsters how to defend properly?
As for Van der Sar and Van Nistelrooy, it isn’t known if either will go into coaching but as two of the finest players in their positions that United have had, it would be great to have them back.

In the mean time, we’ll just have to settle for Van Gaal and his coaching staff which isn’t a bad compromise.
