Manchester United have announced that Alexander Buttner has finalised his move to Dynamo Moscow for a fee believed to be in the region of €5.5m, rising to €7m.
Both Buttner and Dynamo Moscow’s vice-president had made it abundantly obvious that Buttner was moving to Moscow, so today’s announcement was more a formality than anything else and now it is complete.
The 25-year-old leaves having made 28 appearances in two years and given that United now have Patrice Evra and Luke Shaw, he was never going to get a game so a move away was right for him and United.
Ed Woodward has had an outstanding 72 hour period having sealed the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera but making a profit on Buttner is almost the most impressive deal of the three given how poor a defender he had been since joining United. He may have had a few impressive appearances but he was never good enough to be Patrice Evra’s long-term replacement.
Buttner’s departure should be the first of many this year for United with the likes of Anderson, Ashley Young, Bebe and a host of others who all could potentially follow Buttner out the exit door.
