Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough is reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Davide Petrucci on a season long loan.
Though rated by many, Davide has found it very difficult to break into Manchester United’s first team due to repeated injuries over the years that have stagnated his growth.
He has been loaned out to Peterborough United, Royal Antwerp and Charlton Athletic in the course of last two seasons to varying degrees of success but has been unable to break through into United’s first team.
While it seems unlikely that he will make it at United, he still has one more year left on his contract and this may well be the last chance for him to prove that he is good enough to play for Manchester United.
However, if United fail to strengthen in central midfield this transfer window, Petrucci could potentially be a wildcard option given Michael Carrick‘s injury and United’s recent emphasis on possession based football and need for technically sound footballers.
Petrucci can play in a number of midfield positions either higher up the pitch in-behind the strikers or in a deeper midfield role. Although a little slow, he has a good first touch, a wide passing range and is a good set piece taker, so would certainly give the Blades’ boss some options in midfield provided he can stay fit.
At the moment, Davide is with the Reserves’ pre-season tour squad and recently scored two great goals against Altrincham in a friendly.
