Over 109,000 people packed into the University of Michigan stadium for Manchester United’s game against Real Madrid to set an all-time attendance record for a football match in the USA.
Although United against Madrid is one of the biggest matches in football and both clubs have a global appeal, to get that many fans attend a pre-season friendly is astonishing.
The crowd was a sea of red shirts as United had plenty of support out in USA, that is of course unless the picture of the stadium you saw was from Marca.
The Spanish newspaper decided to give the crowd a white makeover to make it seem as though there were more fans in Madrid shirts than there actually was in the stadium.
Few clubs, if any, can truly compete with United’s global appeal and with one match left on tour against Liverpool in the final, there’s every chance we could go home with five wins from five. What a start that would be to the Louis van Gaal era.
