AS Roma’s Mehdi Benatia is on his way to England to hold talks with Manchester United according to Jim White from Sky Sports.
Benatia, 27, has been tentatively linked with United this summer and the Express has reported that a late bid for the French born defender has come in from United.
United have been in the market for a new centre-back all summer but pursuits of targets such as Thomas Vermaelen and Mats Hummels have fallen through, leaving United with only two weeks in the transfer window with some serious movement still needed if the squad is to be considered title contenders.
Benatia would be a much needed injection of experience into the side as that is what United’s current defence lacks following the departure of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.
As the French defender hasn’t been considered a top target this summer, a move for him indicates either United have kept any move for him under wraps or that Ed Woodward has adopted a scatter-gun approach to the transfer window with such little activity so far.
