Player Ratings: MK Dons 4-0 Manchester United: Shocking and appalling

David de Gea 4 – Seemed to lack concentration at times and was caught a little flat-footed for MK Dons’ third. Made one or two decent stops but had one of his worst days in some time.

Saidy Janko 3 – Hooked at half-time on his United debut. Undoubted potential but found it tough. Looked a little off the pace and was ineffectual going forward.

Michael Keane 3 – Often found wanting in possession, hi ssloppy pass contributed to Afobe’s first goal. Rarely looked comfortable and might have done better for the fourth goal.

Jonny Evans 2 – Awful mistake led to a poor first goal being conceded and his uncharacteristically poor distribution continued to cause problems all night. Not the mature performance expected from a senior player.

Marnick Vermijl 3 – Didn’t look great on the left side of United’s back three. Distribution was notably better than his defensive colleagues and he was perhaps the least exposed.

Reece James 3 – Booked in the first half for a late tackle but didn’t contribute to attacking hases as he did in pre-season and he was caught out a few times going the other way.

Anderson 2 – One laser guided through ball in the first 15 minutes was the total of his good work. Woeful defending for Will Griggs second goal and offered nothing. Should be the last time he wears the shirt.

Nick Powell 3 – Tried to make things happen but never exuded any quality in possession. Struggled to find his teammates with any regularity and several long balls didn’t come off. Subbed on the hour.

Shinji Kagawa n/a- Only managed 20 minutes before coming off with what appeared to be blurred vision.

Javier Hernandez 2 – Ridiculously poor in possession and squandered one chance he’d have gobbled up with his eyes closed three seasons ago. A shadow of his former self and needs to leave.

Danny Welbeck 4 – Not a great evening but showed more fight and spirit than his teammates. Not involved enough but one or two nice touches. Evidenced why he has to stay over the disinterested Hernandez.

Adnan Januzaj 5 – Did his best in an unfamiliar position and at least looked capable going forward. Cracked one shot against the woodwork and van Gaal has to find a role for the 19-year-old.

Andreas Pereira 5- Will be knocked by some but his sometimes audacious style and willingness to take risks was overly positive, although he needs to improve his end product. Great cross for James Wilson.

James Wilson 6 Did his chances no harm tonight, coming the closest to reducing United’s deficit with a strong header. Showed impress instinct and looked something of a natural.
