Phil Jones has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for August after receiving 46% of the fans’ vote.
United have been out of form and although the defence has been far from water tight, Jones has progressed and improved the more he has played in his favoured centre-back position.
“I think I have had a steady start to the season,” Jones said after winning the award.

“Obviously the results have not been what we wanted, far from it, so we need to improve and hopefully win on Sunday to get our first win on the board and really kick on from there.”
This season could be the breakthrough campaign United fans have been waiting for with Jones because he has never had a full run of games at centre-back but he’ll need to stay injury free to really make the most of it and is currently a doubt for United’s game against Sunday.
Jones also reserved praise for Blackett who came second in the votes in what was his first month as a senior United player: “He has got a big future if he keeps playing the way he is playing and progressing under the manager.”
