The 18-year-old had been enjoying a productive start to the season with United and it was exciting to see another youngster take another step closer to the first-team.
As well as impressing Van Gaal enough to be named in United’s match day squad for QPR, Pereira gave a good account of himself in United’s Under-21s 4-0 win over Sunderland last night.
For good measure, Pereira got himself on the score-sheet with a fine effort.
Pereira is a very exciting player and somebody who United fans would have no trouble in taking to because he is capable of special moments to win games.

Like Adnan Januzaj was, Pereira is an untried and untested 18-year-old in a squad full of stars but Van Gaal will not be afraid to give him a chance. As Sir Matt Busby always said, ‘if they’re good enough, they’re old enough.’
What Pereira now needs to do is knuckle down and continue to impress with the chances that will now come his way.
Out of United’s Under-21s squad, Pereira is one who would be singled out as having individual match winning ability (like his winner against Liverpool last year, see video) and that’s probably what attracts Van Gaal to him.
If he can really make the most of any chance given to him and bursts onto the scene like Januzaj did last year, Pereira could well break into United’s first-team squad on a permanent basis this season.
