Sam Johnstone hints at potential Manchester United exit

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has hinted at a potential exit from the club.

Johnstone was left out of United’s official 2014/15 squad with Louis van Gaal choosing to go with David de Gea, Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos as his three goalkeepers.

Despite being part of the pre-season tour, Johnstone’s first-team opportunities look very bleak at United this season and he has indicated that his future lies elsewhere.

Sometimes u have to think what’s best for YOU!” Johnstone said.

The transfer window is closed for Premier League clubs but the window is still open for completing a loan move to a club in the Championship or the lower divisions of English football.

Johnstone was part of United’s 2011 FA Youth Cup winning team but the arrival of De Gea in 2012 effectively meant the writing was already on the wall for his chances at becoming United’s first choice goalkeeper.

If Johnstone does remain at United, he would have to settle for Under-21s football and is more likely to prefer a loan move elsewhere for regular first-team football.
