William Carvalho not interested in Manchester United move and is happy at Sporting Lisbon

William Carvalho has denied wanting to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer after heavy speculation a move to Manchester United or Arsenal could be in the pipeline ultimately ended with him staying in Portugal.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough campaign with Sporting Lisbon and earned himself a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad after helping Sporting to Champions League football with a strong domestic season.

David Moyes scouted Carvalho on more than a dozen occasions last season and he was considered to be a top midfield target for United but speaking about the summer, Carvalho has insisted he has always been happy at Sporting.

“Nobody ever heard me say I wanted to leave the Sporting or was dissatisfied. I’ve always been satisfied at Sporting,” he said.

“As things have not gone well me start this championship, people think it is because I’m upset, but they could not be more wrong.

“I want to always be right, but that’s football, sometimes things do not go on the pitch as we wish.

“I feel I can give more and can do better than last season. I know I have not been at the highest level, but eventually things will go well and I hope it will be in the next game.”

Carvalho flirted with a move away from Sporting all summer and on paper he looked like a strong option for United given the need for a battling central midfielder. Louis van Gaal thought otherwise and decided to bring in Daley Blind instead so United’s interest in Carvalho went quiet.

Like Toni Kroos, Carvalho was one of a number of midfield prospects who the Dutchman could have brought in but United’s central midfield is certainly stronger now with the likes of Ander Herrera and Blind.

Many fans considered a move for Carvalho risky given that he only had one season of senior football under his belt in Portugal but plenty will be keeping an eye on him to see how he progresses over the next season.!–Article End–>
