Radamel Falcao’s celebrations after scoring his first goal for Manchester United were wonderful.
Like a man possessed, the Colombian striker reeled off for a knee slide with a look on his face that was a hybrid of unadulterated joy and relief at the same time.
It won’t be a goal he places in the top ten best finishes of his career but in terms of importance for him as a player, it will certainly rank highly. You could see just how much it meant to him by looking at his eyes and every fan felt it too.
The wait for his first goal is now over and it is a hurdle every new striker has to overcome at a new club. The longer the wait went on, the greater pressure he would have exerted on himself to deliver. He was almost trying too hard to score with every opportunity he had, so it was no surprise his goal came off an instinctive reaction to a mis-hit Angel di Maria cross he didn’t have time to think about.
Now Falcao has got that burden off his shoulders, expect his all-round game to improve. Bring on West Brom.
