Mata and Herrera send Thiago Alcantara messages of support after ligament injury

Juan Mata and Ander Herrera have sent their old team-mate Thiago Alcantara a get well soon message after news broke that the Bayern Munich midfielder tore his ligament in training and will have to undergo surgery.

Herrera, Mata and Thiago were team-mates for Spain’s U21s in their Euro 2011 triumph and the midfielder was part of a long, drawn out saga in the summer of 2012 when he was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

In the end Thiago joined up with Pep Guardiola again at Bayern but judging by how unlucky he has been with injuries since making the move, United may well have dodged a bullet. He could end up being the new Owen Hargreaves rather than the new Xavi at this rate.

Thiago was only just on the verge of returning after being sidelined with a serious injury for some time but now faces another prolonged period on the sidelines.
