Radamel Falcao will not feature for Manchester United this weekend as he has been unable to overcome his injury problems.
Falcao sustained a kick to the leg in training last Friday and subsequently missed United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea but there was a hope he would be able to recover this week.
However, Falcao wasn’t pictured in training with United yesterday and Louis van Gaal has confirmed the striker will not play against City on Sunday.
“Rooney was not injured,” Van Gaal told reporters yesterday.
“The media was writing that but he was never injured. Maybe his shoes were too tight, that is possible, but he was never injured.
“He shall play, he is my captain. That is all I can say to you. Falcao is still injured. I have heard that he [Rooney] has scored a lot of goals against City, the most of any player. I said it to him to stimulate him but he doesn’t need that. I am very happy that he can play again and he shall play.”
The return of Wayne Rooney gives Van Gaal a boost but for Falcao it is another setback as he tries to settle into life at Old Trafford.
It’s not been the blistering start to his United career that he would have hoped for and at this stage it isn’t known how long he will be ruled out for.
