Yesterday we took a look at a few pros and cons for signing Mats Hummels in the summer.
Despite the German being an absolutely fantastic defender who is one of the best in the world, his injury record could leave United in a very similar situation to current standings, thanks to a terrible succession of injuries which has seen him ruled out for over 230 days in the past three years.
By comparison, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin has only missed eight games in the past five years. At 28, Godin has European and domestic experience up to the highest level and would be an experienced head which United so desperately lack.
In front of him in midfield, there is also the small addition of a certain Kevin Strootman. United’s midfield is already one of the better points of the team but placing Strootman in there takes it up a level.
Remember, next season United are expecting to be back in the Champions League as well which. At this stage last season, United had played 50% more games (18 instead of 12, according to Andy Mitten) and when that comes back, United need the squad to be able to cope with it.
What do you think this of this potential formation for next sesaon?
