Jonny Evans comes through Man Utd’s U21s game unscathed

Jonny Evans took another step towards returning for Manchester United by completing the full 90 minutes in the U21s 1-0 defeat to Southampton tonight.

In his natural role at centre back, Evans looked very comfortable and Louis van Gaal will be delighted to see Evans come through without any problem.

There isn't a defender at United who is as comfortable and accomplished as Evans is at coming out of defence with the ball which is something Van Gaal wants his defenders to do.

Evans is United's most experienced defender but has been missing since injuring his foot in the 5-3 defeat away to Leicester. In his absence, United have very much lacked a leader at the back and it certainly hasn't helped the defence.

The Northern Irishman won't be involved in United's game against Stoke tomorrow night at Old Trafford but may be available for the trip to Southampton next Monday.

All season long it has been a case of one step forward and two steps back with injuries at United but at this moment in time, things are looking up ahead of the busy festive period.
