Neville surprised by Falcao substitution

Gary Neville was left confused when Radamel Falcao was substituted during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City.

Falcao had been United’s liveliest player up to that point, scoring the equaliser and showing more quality than his attacking team mates, leaving supporters equally baffled by his withdrawal.

The decision didn’t seem to go down well with the player either as Falcao appeared confused when his number was up but Van Gaal is yet to offer an explanation for the decision.

Neville appeared confused during the game whilst commentating and reiterated that point post-match.

“I thought the performance suffered when Falcao went off,” said Neville.

“He was tenacious. Unless he was suffering, I was surprised he came off.”

Falcao’s substitution was all the more baffling given that he was United’s best player. On a day where United’s attack failed to click as they did at Spurs and against Newcastle, Falcao put himself in the right positions and continuously harassed Stoke’s defenders.

It was more than likely down to fitness but there were no signs of the injury that had kept him out this season and he certainly looked more energetic than Robin van Persie, the Dutchman rarely had the chance to make an impact in the match.
