Here is today’s Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
Manchester United have been continually linked with Borussia Dortmund and Germany centre-back Mats Hummels. It has now been claimed by Gianluigi Longari of Italian outlet TMW that United have made an offer for Hummels. The Italian journalist does not mention a fee or which transfer window United would be aiming to close the deal in.
Javier Hernandez will be sold in the summer, regardless of whether United make Radamel Falcao’s move United permanent. According to The Telegraph, Louis van Gaal will look to sell the Mexican striker when his loan at Real Madrid expires and he returns to United.
Hernandez has struggled to make an impact in Madrid and it is unlikely that the Spanish giants will take the option of making the diminutive Mexican’s transfer permanent. Hernandez will be out of contract in 2016 but Van Gaal has no intention of keeping Hernandez in Manchester to let his contract run down.
United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has extended his loan deal with Doncaster Rovers. Johnstone has been in impressive form for Paul Dickov’s Doncaster side and the young stopper has now extended his loan until the summer of 2015, allowing him to continue gaining valuable first team experience.
Burnley are in talks with United over a permanent deal for Michael Keane. The defender has been on loan to the Premier League side this season and has since become an important player for them. Sean Dyche has admitted Burnley can only go ahead if the fee is correct.
United could be set to renew their interest in Nicolas Ottamendi as reports in Spain say activating his €50 million release clause could see the Argentine defender swap Valencia for Manchester as soon as January. United were linked with a move for Ottamendi late in the summer window of 2014, only for the Argentine to complete his move to Valencia. Given United’s defensive injury woes and Van Gaal’s intention to continue building his squad, SuperDeporte are claiming a deal could be done as soon as January.
Winston Reid is set to leave West Ham which could alert United. Sam Allardyce has stated that he feels Reid could be on his way out of the London club as the New Zealand international is yet to extend his contract, which expires on 30 June 2015. Reid’s stock has risen considerably after establishing himself as a star player at West Ham. His contract situation could allow for a deal to be struck in January with a relatively low transfer fee, something United may look to take advantage of.
Reported United target Kevin Mendez is set to join Roma. United had been linked with the 18 year old Penarol striker on a number of occasions in recent weeks, however, Mendez will not be following Guillermo Varela in making the swap from Penarol to United. The youngster will sign for Roma and could then be loaned out to fellow Italian side Perugia to gain some experience.
AC Milan are prepared to accept a bid from United for Nigel de Jong, according to reports in Italy. 30 year old De Jong is out of contract with Milan in the summer and the club are keen to get a transfer fee rather than let him leave for a free. As a result, the club are apparently prepared to accept an offer from United for the Dutch midfielder. Whether De Jong is a legitimate target for Louis Van Gaal is another matter.
