Manchester United have reportedly calmed the interest in Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar in the hopes they can attain some of their higher targets this month.
Whilst no names have been mentioned, ESPN’s Miguel Delaney suggests a deal for Vlaar to go to Old Trafford looked ‘certain’ two months ago but that the club are now looking at other options.
The same report states United are actively looking at names such as Diego Godin, Mats Hummels and Fabian Schar as well as Vlaar whilst also following the situation of Raphael Varane at Real Madrid.
It would appear if the reports are true then United definitely are looking to strengthen their squad this month despite denials in the past they would buy in the January window.
Rumours emerged in the last few weeks that Hummels was seriously considering a move to Old Trafford given Borussia Dortmund’s poor league form whilst the reliable Steve Bates linked United with Basel defender Schar back in November.
