Here is today’s Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
Seamus Coleman will not be sold in January says Roberto Martinez. The Everton right back has been linked with United regularly in the past month with the unpredictable Rafael still not able to stay consistently fit. Contrary to the report of the Liverpool Echo, The Manchester Evening News claims that United still have not given up hope of bringing the Irishman to Old Trafford this month. It seems likely United will open the cheque book in January but reinforcements at centre back appear more likely than at right back.
United have agreed a deal to sign former Fulham youngster Kayne Diedrick-Roberts. Fulham released the youngster and United have taken full advantage, clearly feeling that Fulham have missed something in the player. It is likely Diedrick-Roberts will sign his professional deal in July this year.
United scouts were present as Sporting Lisbon defeated Braga. United regularly have scouts in attendance at a broad range of European games, but possible links to Sporting’s Carlos Mane have emerged as the youngster has put in some fine performances for Sporting.
Sam Johnstone has joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season. Johnstone was recalled from his loan at Doncaster and has immediately made the move to Preston and will see out the remainder of the season with the club.
Javier Hernandez has turned down a move to the MLS in favour or staying in Europe. Hernandez has struggled to make an impact at Real Madrid and it looks unlikely the Spanish giants will opt to make the diminutive Mexican’s move a permanent one. Likewise, Hernandez appears to have no future at Old Trafford but this has not been enough for him to decide to swap continents and move to the MLS. If true, United will likely look for a European buyer for the front-man in the summer transfer window.
Juventus have ruled out the sale of Paul Pogba. He has developed in to arguably the best young central midfielder in the world whilst at Juventus and established himself as a key man in their successful side. United are credited with an ongoing interest in luring the talented Frenchman back to Manchester but it looks unlikely to be any time soon. Juventus are fully aware of the talent they have on their hands and are understandably reluctant to sell their prized youngster.
Raphael Varane could be available for around £15 million say Red Issue. The talented French centre-back is struggling to establish himself in the Real Madrid first team as Pepe and Sergio Ramos have seized control of their starting berths, leading to speculation that Varane could look to leave the Bernabeu in search of first team football.
United came close to signing Varane in the summer they signed Phil Jones and the club supposedly retain an interest in bringing Varane to Old Trafford. Despite being only 21, Varane is a quality player and would be a welcome addition to United’s centre back options as the long term futures of Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are questioned by fans.
Lionel Messi’s situation is being monitored by United report The Guardian, after Messi was quoted as saying “I am not sure where I will be next year” at the Ballon D’or ceremony. The Guardian say that United are keeping a close eye on the situation and are also the only club in England with the financial resources to bring the Barcelona superstar to Old Trafford. Any move for Messi would be exceptionally expensive and United are continually linked with a near record breaking move for Gareth Bale, it will be interesting to see if United complete any deal of this magnitude in the next six months or so.
Aymeric Laporte is on the brink of a move to United, according to The Express. It is claimed that Spanish sources have revealed that a deal bringing the young Frenchman to Old Trafford is 80% complete and that the fee is around the £25 million mark. It adds to the lengthy list of defenders linked with a move to United.
Thomas Muller may be set to leave Bayern Munich, alerting United to the potential availability of the German star. According to The Express, Muller’s agent has made Real Madrid aware of a situation that could see Muller leave Munich in search of a new challenge and surroundings. United were interested in bringing Muller to Old Trafford last summer and any talk of a departure from Bayern will most likely capture the attention of Van Gaal.
