Manchester United have opened discussions with Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, report Le 10 Sport in France.
The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in world football but has struggled to displace the partnership of Thiago Silva and David Luiz at both club and international level.
United were first linked with Marquinhos back in 2013 before he joined PSG from Italian side AS Roma and were once again linked last year when it became clear the defender wasn’t getting the required game time in Ligue 1.
Le 10 Sport now suggest Marquinhos is one of many defenders Louis van Gaal is looking at his best and initial contact has been made with the club, although a summer deal may be more likely.
The paper also suggests United have told the player they will come back in for him during the summer transfer window if a move this month doesn’t materialise.
His future was first thrown into doubt last year when David Luiz signed from Chelsea, with Marquinhos saying he would talk to the club about his future, intimating a move away may not be totally ruled out.
The same Le 10 Sport piece also suggest United made a bid for another top target earlier this week, Athletic Club’s Aymeric Laporte who could also be a top target in the summer.
