Cambridge vs Man Utd: Potential 4-4-2 diamond – Valdes starts

When Victor Valdes signed an 18-month deal with Manchester United, he would have been more than aware that the bench was going to be where he spent most of his time thanks to the ever-improving David de Gea.

However, the FA Cup offers Louis van Gaal the opportunity to test Valdes without having to drop his undisputed no.1 in a game where the press would laud it as the beginning of the end of for Spanish Dave. An away trip to Cambridge is the perfect game for that.

Valdes has trained well with United but playing competitive football is a whole different ball park and it has been more than eight months since Valdes got between the sticks, so it will be interesting to see how he plays.

Although it may be Cambridge, Van Gaal showed with his starting XI against Yeovil Town that he was taking this competition seriously, which is why we’ve given United such a strong team in front of Valdes in this potential line-up.
