Manchester United’s search for a new defender has taken them to Eastern Europe to look at Dynamo Kiev centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic according to sources at ESPN.
A full Austrian international, Dragovic is an Austrian international and just the latest in an ever-growing list of defenders to be linked with a move to Old Trafford this month.
Whilst it is known Louis van Gaal is keen to bring a defender to the club in the next ten days, rumours have gone into overdrive over the identity of those targets and unless Ed Woodward is leaking like a sieve, it would be fair to assume not all the names being mentioned are prime targets.
The 23-year-old has impressed in Ukraine since joining from Basel and is a regular at the heart of the Austrian defence, scoring his first goal for his country late last year against Brazil.
Whilst it is unlikely Dragovic is a key target given the amount of column inches given to the likes of Mats Hummels, Diego Godin and Raphael Varane, he could be a more attainable option for Van Gaal to look at in order to ensure his side secure Champions League qualification.
The club may feel forced into some kind of action after seeing Arsenal seemingly secure a deal for Villarreal centre-back Gabriel on Wednesday, a defender who had been linked with United earlier this week.
With ESPN stating Dragovic was also a target of Arsenal’s, the path now may be clear for United to swoop should an Gaal be serious about the Austrian.
