Here is a round-up of the last 24 hours of Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
Mats Hummels has reacted angrily to questions over a potential move to United. The Germany and Borussia Dortmund star has been the subject of continued speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford. Now, whilst being interviewed by German newspaper Bild, Hummels has responded angrily to questions about his Dortmund departure:
“Are you looking for a headline?” Hummels responded when questioned.
“No, I will keep it the way I’ve been doing it for seven years. I’ll let everything come to me and just look forward only to the start against Leverkusen and the second half of the season.”
Nathaniel Clyne is in no hurry to extend his contract at Southampton, amidst continued speculation regarding his future. The 23-year-old right back has established himself as a star in Southampton’s side and has caught the eye of Louis Van Gaal.
Talks around Clyne’s contract are ongoing. “My contract, we’re still negotiating,” he said. “I’m negotiating with my agent & also with the club so, yeah, we’ll wait until April.”
It had been reported that United could look to sign the talented right back this month but it would now appear that any move for Clyne may happen in the summer. With less than a week left in the transfer window, it is looking increasingly likely that United will not have any new arrivals, despite the speculation that they were keen on bringing Clyne to Old Trafford this month.
Adnan Januzaj is subject to continued interest from PSG, according to his agent Dirk de Vriese. “Yes PSG have shown themselves to be interested this winter,” De Vriese told reporters.
“They directly contacted Manchester United for information. Louis van Gaal announced that he (Januzaj) cannot leave this winter. Not as a permanent transfer nor as a loan. The coach considered him as an important player for squad. He is counting on everyone. It seems like a definitive decision, I don’t think that it can change.”
Janzuaj has found his first team appearances to be limited this season but did put in a good showing in United’s otherwise disappointing 0-0 with Cambridge. PSG have shown a continued interest in Januzaj since he broke through at United under David Moyes.
Man United target Lucas Silva has completed a move to Real Madrid. The 21-year-old shone for Cruzeiro in Brazil, catching the eye of a range of top European clubs. Silva’s agent insisted that United were one of the interested clubs but the youngster has opted to join the European Champions. Silva recently won his second consecutive Brazilian league title eventually being voted the best defensive midfielder in the league.
Gabriel Paulista is set to sign for Arsenal, as the supposed United target is due to complete his move this week. Arsene Wenger expects the arrival of Gabriel to be imminent and Villarreal have confirmed that a deal for the 24-year-old Brazilian has been struck with the London club. It was rumoured that United wanted to bring Gabriel to Old Trafford as Van Gaal looked to strengthen his defensive options but United’s focus looks to be elsewhere.
United will take young Norwegian Edvard Sandvik Tagseth on trial according to reports in Norway. The 14-year-old has already had a trial period at Everton, in which time he notched the winner in a youth cup game against United. Now, Tagseth will visit United accompanied by his father Tore Tagseth. Sandvik Tagseth’s uncle Øyvind Sandvik is responsible for engineering the trials for the youngster.
