Manchester United’s most important piece of business this year will be getting David de Gea to sign a new contract.
His current deal expires next summer and having become one of the world’s best goalkeepers by the age of 24, Real Madrid are consistently being linked with a move for him.
Fans are eager for De Gea to sign a new deal and reports from Italian media outlet Sportsmediaset suggest that a new contract keeping the Spaniard at Man United until 2020 has been agreed.
At this present moment in time, Sportsmediaset is the only news outlet reporting the story on their Twitter account. They haven’t published a supporting editorial on their website which comes as a surprise, given the magnitude of the reported exclusive.
On the surface, it certainly seems strange an Italian outlet would break the De Gea news first given that he is a Spanish goalkeeper playing in the English Premier League and has a Portuguese agent.
Man United fans are desperate to see De Gea signing a new contract as soon as possible and Sportsmediaset’s claims are the first that a deal has been agreed, although their claims are not yet substantiated across Europe. However, it could very well snowball from here over the next few weeks.
