Man United transfer news including Hummels, Anderson and Pogba

Here are the Manchester United transfer news and gossip stories from the last 24 hours.

United are still hopeful of landing Mats Hummels before the close of this transfer window. This development comes as United have reportedly held further meetings with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of the German star.

Hummels has been linked with United continually over recent months and talk of the Dortmund centre back arriving at Old Trafford this month has persisted. It is suggested that Dortmund themselves are targeting the signing of reported United target Aleksandar Dragovic, which would cover for the departure of the influential Hummels.

It has always been maintained that United would only buy in January if they were able to sign one of their top targets, Hummels certainly fits this description.

Anderson is in talks over a move to Internacional of Brazil. Reports have emanated from Brazil suggesting that the United midfielder could be on his way back to his home country in a deal worth around €3.5 million. It is suggested that Anderson wishes to return to Brazil in order to be closer to his family, however, finding an agreement over Anderson’s wage demands is proving slightly complex. It was reported earlier in the month that there was no interest from any clubs in signing Anderson, despite him being on the transfer list since the start of the window.

Paul Pogba will leave Juventus within two years according to his outspoken agent Mino Raiola. In news that will irritate but not surprise Juventus, Raiola has again insisted that his client’s days at Juventus can be considered numbered.

Pogba has continually been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford but his Juventus team mate Andrea Pirlo does not feel Pogba is likely to return to Manchester when or if he does leave Juventus. At 21-years-old Pogba has all the makings of one of the world’s top footballers and would command a transfer fee representative of his standing but clubs would be hard pushed to find a higher quality option with so long left in their career and will expect to pay the premium price.

United target Jaun Cuadrado looks set to join Chelsea. This comes soon after Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella revealed the £26.8 million release clause in the Colombian winger’s contract: “I think Chelsea have probably been in talks with his agent, but I don’t know. His €35m release clause has to be paid if he is to leave.”

United were linked with Cuadrado during and after his impressive performance at the World Cup for Colombia, with suggestions that he would perfectly fit in to Louis van Gaal‘s preferred 3-5-2 system. If United did maintain an interest in Cuadrado, they look to have lost out to the current Premier League leaders.

Sam Allardyce is still confident a deal can be done for Darren Fletcher. The Scotland international has continually been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with a host of clubs reportedly interested in securing his services.

Fletcher’s move to West Ham appeared to have broken down in the last couple of days but Allardyce is still hopeful of completing a deal. “It’s still a possibility. But it’s not absolutely certain,” Allardyce said. Fletcher has spent his whole career to date at United but with six months remaining on his contract he is keen to secure regular first team football.

United target Kevin Strootman is to have further knee surgery, which could put any future move to United in doubt due to concerns over his recovery from a serious cruciate ligament injury. Van Gaal has reportedly always maintained an interest in bringing Strootman to United and there were some suggestions that United could look to do a deal as soon as this month. Given the latest development in Strootman’s battle with injury, any move for the midfielder will likely not be considered until the summer at the earliest.

Blackpool manager Lee Clarke has spoken of his excitement at the loan signing of Joe Rothwell. “He has a lot of talent,” said Clark.

“He has the Manchester United mentality, the work ethic, the training. They train how they play.” Rothwell has played well at U21 level and was reportedly close to first team involvement at United. The move to Blackpool will provide him with a chance to show his ability and help his development through regular first team football.

Stevenage defender Ryan Johnson has joined United on trial. The 18-year-old has impressed since forcing his way in to the first team at Stevenage and United have now decided to give the young defender a chance to show them his ability first hand. Johnson is a former West Brom player, but left the Premier League side in order to improve his chances of regular game time and further his development.
