Manchester United have signed 16-year-old defender Dayot Upamecano from Ligue 2 side Valenciennes.
Upamecano joins in a deal worth €450k and will become part of Man United’s academy sides at Carrington.
Although Upamecano is very young, the progress of Timothy Fosu-Mensah this season shows that age isn’t a blocker for progress when it comes to youngsters. Since joining aged 16 in the summer, Fosu-Mensah has been in extremely impressive form with Man United’s U18s and is tipped to make his U21s debut before the end of the season.
At this stage there is no official confirmation from either Valenciennes or Man United but an announcement is expected.
Although signing a first-team defender is a priority for Man United fans, it’s never a bad thing to bring in talented youngsters to the club.
