Manchester United have announced Jesse Lingard has joined Derby County on loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old midfielder recently returned from an injury which he suffered on the first day of the season against Swansea on his full debut.
As well as joining Derby on loan, Lingard signed a new three year deal with Man United and Steve McClaren is delighted to have landed the youngster on a short term deal.
“Jesse is an exciting talent and someone that we are looking forward to working with,” he said.
“He strengthens the attacking options that we can call upon and given we’ve lost Jordon Ibe and Johnny Russell in the last few weeks it was important to strengthen in that particular area of the side.”
Having joined Derby on loan, Lingard will be able to get the first-team action he’ll need in order to fully recover from his injury.
Lingard was due to play for Man United’s U21s last night but was pulled out of the squad at the last minute in order to complete his move to Derby.
Louis van Gaal is a fan of Lingard and wouldn’t have sent him out on loan if he felt he had a place in the first-team squad this season, so it will be good for him to get back in action on a regular basis.
As always, we’ll be following Lingard’s progress as part of our regular loan watch coverage.
