Manchester United’s Paddy McNair repays faith from Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal placed a huge amount of faith in Manchester United’s Paddy McNair by starting him at right-back against Burnley on Wednesday and the youngster repaid the Dutchman with a solid display.

McNair was preferred on the right flank to Antonino Valencia who dropped to the bench.

He put in a good shift and can be pleased with his contribution as United sealed an important three points in a 3-1 victory.

Assured on the ball and decent going forward, the Northern Irishman got some strong tackles in. Although defensively he found himself out of position sometimes which gave Burnley an area to attack, McNair can be pleased with how he played overall.

It was an encouraging performance from the 19-year-old which showed why the club decided to reward him with a new contract last week.

It is a deserved reward for McNair who has ably stepped up from the U21s this season. McNair also played at right back gainst Cambridge United last week and won the Man of the Match award for his efforts.

He will now be looking to push on in order to cement a regular spot in United’s first-team. Getting into Man United’s first-team is very difficult but the real difficulty lies in holding down a regular spot.
