Manchester United set for another busy summer transfer window

Manchester United are set for another busy transfer window with Louis van Gaal given permission to bring in at least four summer signings.

Louis van Gaal is targeting a right-back, centre-back, central midfielder and a striker while they may also need to buy a goalkeeper if David de Gea leaves the club.

In defence, the latest reports say United are considering moves to bring in Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne, Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels and Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte.

Van Gaal had hoped to sign Roma’s Kevin Strootman in order to bring some balance to United’s midfield but he has been forced to rethink this as the 25-year-old recently suffered another serious knee injury which will keep him out for the season.

Meanwhile, Edinson Cavani may be brought in to replace the struggling Radamel Falcao. Having scored just four goals at United, the striker is having a torrid time at United and he struggled to make any impact while playing for the U21s on Tuesday night.

The Colombian’s poor loan spell at Old Trafford means Robin van Persie will be expected to see out his contract with the club.

United’s clear out is long overdue, with the squad unbalance in a number of areas. A number of players such as Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are out of contract in June or at the end of the season and the club also need to make a decision on their futures.
